Corresponds roughly with the Schritte International A1.1 course material but can be used with just about any beginner’s A1 course. Seven verbs are chosen here as a starting point: “lernen”, “kommen”, “schreiben”, “heißen”, “haben”, “sprechen” & “sein”. Here, the student learns the regular verb endings and how these are applied based on ‘person’ and ‘number’. Various irregularities are looked at as well. Conjugations for each verb are first broken down in chart form, and afterwards the student can see the verbs being used in sample sentences. Word order when forming questions is also covered.

Five tests covering most of the grammar topics encountered at the A1.2 level are bundled into one convenient package. Answer keys are provided for each test (including additional notes and English translations), handy for the self-directed student. These materials can be used for test prep and also as an assessment tool for quickly gauging a student’s proficiency at the later A1 level. Geared more towards college-level study and continuing adult education, these tests can also be used at the high school level as end-of-semester exams and will provide a challenge to the most gifted language students.

A two-page quiz on inseparable prefix verbs. In the first section, the verb in parentheses is conjugated in the present tense. In the 2nd section, the verb in parentheses is put in its ‘Perfekt’ tense form. In the final section, the student is presented with both separable and inseparable verbs and instructed to put the verb in its proper form, given the cues available. This could be in the present tense, the ‘Perfekt’ tense or in the verb’s infinitive form. An answer key is provided along with some grammatical notes.
